In a Major setback to Congress in Gujarat, MLA Alpesh Thakore quit Congress. Even as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu sat on a dharna against Election Commission.
As the massive election juggernaut for Lok Sabha 2019 rolls forward, all political parties are engaged in frenzied campaigning.
Top leaders are crisscrossing the country addressing election rallies while the nomination filing process continues apace. Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination from Amethi on Wednesday. Present on the occasion with him were his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and mother Sonia Gandhi. Rahul later thanked the people of Amethi.
After having represented the constituency for nearly 15 years, Rahul is being challenged in traditional Gandhi family bastion Amethi for the second time around by BJP candidate and Union Minister Smriti Irani. He has also filed his nomination from Wayanad in Kerala.
After Amethi, Rahul went on to address a rally in Katihar where he launched a stinging attack on the Modi government over alleged irregularities in the Rafale deal and challenged PM Modi to a debate on the issue of corruption.
Meanwhile in a big jolt to the Congress in Gujarat, party MLA Alpesh Thakore resigned from the party Alpesh has been a prominent face of the OBC community in Gujarat and stood for election from the Patan seat after joined just before the vidhan sabha elections in 2017.
In Karnataka, Cm HD Kumaraswamy campaigned for son Nikhil who is standing for election from Mandya.
Down South in Tamil Nadu, DMK chief MK Stalin campaigned in Tuticorin while PMK’s Sam Paul was seen wooing voters at a rally in Chennai Central.
In Andhra Pradesh, meanwhile CM Chandrababu Naidu sat on dharna outside the CEC office in amaravati protesting the transfer of a number of officials by the EC.
Back in new Delhi too a group of TMC leaders met the Ec to submit a memorandum on West Bengal police transfers.
In Srinagar in JK CM Farooq Abdullah addressed an election rally he said Jammu and Kashmir issue is “political” in nature, and a dialogue between India and Pakistan is the only way out. He even appreciated PK PM Imran Khan’s statement on the matter.
All in all, election fever is rising and in states where assembly elections are being held simultaneously the tempo is even more frenzied.
