Chandrayaan -2 in mid April, Gaganyaan in 2021

The Indian Space Research Organisation is readying to take a long leap in space. In his first media interaction of the new year, ISRO Chief K Sivan shared the space agency’s plans for big missions in the coming days.

He informed that India’s second mission to the moon Chandrayaan-2 will be launched mid-April this year.

— Chandrayaan-2 is an advanced version of Chandrayaan-1 which was launched nearly a decade ago
— The Chandrayaan-2 mission costs nearly 800 crore rupees
— ISRO had earlier said that the second moon mission will be launched between January to 16th of February, 2019 window

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s independence day announcement of the Gaganyaan mission before 2022. ISRO too appears to be geared up for the ambitious maiden human spaceflight mission. ISRO Chief made it clear that.

— Gaganyaan is ISRO’s highest priority mission for 2019
— The plan is to have the first unmanned mission in December 2020
— The second unmanned mission will take place by July 2021
— The manned mission has been set a December 2021 deadline
— ISRO is also setting up its first Human Space Flight Centre for the manned mission

With changing times, ISRO is also adapting to the needs and priorities of New India. So ISRO is using the 30,000 crore rupees package given by the Centre for further development of its PSLV, GSLV and Gaganyaan missions apart from job creation. It is also contributing to Start Up India by setting up 6 incubation centres which will provide training for all projects. Clearly, ISRO is ready to chart out a new course of success in the coming years.
