At stumps on day 3, hosts were 236 for 6 in their first innings, trailing India by 386 runs.

India is in a commanding position in the test after they declared their first innings at 622 for 7.

With 2-1 lead in the four-match Test series, India already retains the Border- Gavaskar Trophy, irrespective of result in this match.
