Mizoram Assembly polls : Assembly Speaker Hiphei resigns

Assembly speaker Hiphei has resigned from his post and Congress membership and Joined the BJP.

Hiphei was elected to the Assembly from Palak constituency.

He had also served as a Member of Parliament.

He is all set to contest assembly polls on BJP ticket from Palak constituency.

Meanwhile, state top officials held an emergency meeting yesterday in Aizawl to review the law and order situation.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Arvind Ray and attended by DGP and Chief Electoral Officer as well as other senior functionaries.

The Chief Secretary is also convening a meeting today with representatives of joint NGOs.

The election commission had recently transferred Principal Home Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo after receiving complaints against him.
