National Teachers Awards to be given under new guidelines

The national awards to teachers were initiated in 1958. Although these honors are given every year, this year is special because the selection process has followed new revised guidelines. Teachers who showed innovation and gave value education to children, have been awarded.

A total of 6,692 applications were received online for the national award from across the country. From these 45 teachers have been selected for the award.

Only regular teachers are eligible for the awards, and the condition of a minimum of 15 years in service has been withdrawn. Young teachers too have been given the opportunity to apply. And teachers can nominate themselves for the award. There are new guidelines also in the procedure of selection

Three teachers from each district of the country were selected. After this, a screening committee selected candidates at state level. In the end, 152 teachers were shortlisted and their names sent to the Central Government.

An independent jury completed the final selection process. The jury selected the teachers who provided innovative ways of teaching in school, and added value to the level of education.

All finalists selected gave presentations before  the jury, each having an opportunity to present their case in a fair and transparent manner.

The Modi Government has made the process for selection of national awards people centric as in the case of the Padma awards.

In the same way, the National Teachers awards too are being given to qualified, talented and teachers who bring novelty to their vocation.
