PM Modi to begin 3-nation visit tomorrow

The two leaders have held several bilateral meetings and have also met on the sidelines of multilateral fora like India-ASEAN summits and East Asia summits.

Prime Minister’s first official engagement would be a visit to the Kalibata Heroes Cemetry in South Jakarta, where he would  pay homage to the Indonesian national heroes who died fighting in Indonesia’s war of Independence, and whose mortal remains are buried here.

He will then be accorded a ceremonial reception at the Presidential Palace, which will be followed by talks between him and the Indonesian President. Both sides are expected to ink agreements in the fields of defence, space and science and technology.

The 2 leaders will jointly inaugurate a Kite Festival and witness a Kite Exhibition that will showcase the strong civilizational linkages between the 2 countries.

PM Modi and President Widodo will interact with Indian and Indonesian CEOs with the aim of boosting bilateral trade and commercial ties.

People to people ties between India and Indonesia are set to get a boost too during the course of the PM’s visit as PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora at a community reception in Jakarta

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a brief stopover in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday on his way to Singapore during which he will meet his newly elected Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohammad. During their meeting, both leaders are expected to deliberate on ways to deepen bilateral relationship in a range of areas, including trade and investment.

On June 1, on the last leg of his visit, PM Modi will hold extensive talks with Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong. PM will address CEOs of top 20 companies and is likely to ink a number of pacts in the areas of defence, space and skill development.

PM Modi will also participate at an interaction with the president and board members of the Nanyang university, one of the premier educational institutions globally, and inaugurate a plaque at a place where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed. 

A key highlight of PM Modi’s visit to Singapore will be his key note address at the Shangri-La dialogue.  He is the first Indian PM who has been invited to deliver the key note address at the forum

Prime Minister Modi’s three nation tour is expected to focus on strengthening economic ties and  defence cooperation.

The spotlight will also be on maritime cooperation and the Indo-Pacific region, besides push for greater connectivity and people-to-people contact.
