Home Ministry asks TN govt to provide details of Tuticorin incident’

Union Home Ministry officials said the ministry is in touch with the state government over the developments in the port town in the southern state.

The protests were going on in Tuticorin for over three months, but violence erupted on Tuesday with agitators fighting pitched battles with police.

A doctor of the hospital where injured are being treated has urged political leaders not to visit the hospital as it creates chaos.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra has expressed grief over firing that took place in Tuticorin. He said that by milking a situation which is tense and sad, Rahul Gandhi is trying to derive some political mileage out of it.
