‘Juniors tear posters, oppose decision’
Udaipur : In a dramatic turn of events, after an hour long discussion with the agitating lawyers, Minister for Urban Development and Housing Srichand Kriplani succeeded to convince former speaker of state legislative assembly Shantilal Chaplot to end his hunger strike in the wee hours of Friday. Kriplani who arrived Udaipur past midnight, in a charter plane, spoke with delegates of Mewar-Vagad HighCourt Sangarsh Samiti at the circuit house and assured them of a positive response on the government’s behalf over the HC bench issue.
He gave a written letter to the samiti members inviting them for a meeting with experts from the Department of Law at Jaipur on Saturday. “Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had insisted for Chaplot’s presence in the meeting and hence trusting the minister’s words, the samiti members gave their consent andhence the hunger strike was withdrawn” Satyendra Sankhla, Vice President of Udaipur Bar Association told Udaipur Kiran. However, a faction of lawyers who were unaware of the late night development were annoyed when they came to know about the culmination of hunger strike and hence, they tore posters of Chaplot and some even black faced his picture put up at the dharna sthal. “
People have their right to express their views in a democratic setup and everyone needs not necessarily agree with any decision. We have not stepped back however, a chance has to be given to the government and listen to their views. We are hopeful that the cabinet would agree to the proposal of HC bench in Udaipur and it would be forwarded to the centre” senior lawyer Arun Vyas told Udaipur Kiran. Bar officials also said that if the mediation talks doesnt brings out any positive result, the samiti would continue its protest and hunger strike would resume.
