State BJP on Friday celebrated 91st birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as ‘good governance day’ at the party headquarters here. The Bihar unit of the party greeted the former PM on the occasion and wished him a long and healthy life.
Leader of Opposition in Bihar assembly Prem Kumar, former Union minister Dr C P Thakur and former minister Nand Kishor Yadav, after cutting a cake, praised Vajpayee for his contribution to Indian politics and his dedication towards the development of the country.
“Vajpayee did a lot of great work, making India a major force in power generation. He is the man under whose tenure the country witnessed unprecedented progress,” Kumar said.
Describing Vajpayee as a very good PM and a great leader, Dr Thakur said, “Vajpayeeji laid the foundation for ‘sapno ka Bharat’. He started a nationwide educational programme to increase primary school reach and female literacy rates, especially in rural districts. It was during his tenure that the golden quadrilateral project was introduced. His another achievement was launching Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) aimed at linking the villages of India with all-weather roads.”
“Vajpayee is a very down to earth person. He loved, respected and appreciated the work of his party workers. He is the man who invented coalition politics. Under the leadership of Vajpayee, the nation witnessed all-round development. He is the only political leader who is loved and respected even by opposition,” former Bihar minister Nand Kishor Yadav said.
The environment cell of BJP organised ‘Atal Paryavaran March’ to mark the occasion. The march, flagged off by Prem Kumar, began from BJP office and culminated at Shaheed Smarak. At the end of the function, more than 500 saplings of different varieties were distributed among the people. The BJP university wing also celebrated the occasion by cutting a 25-pound cake.
