Tourists throng Udaipur to enjoy winter break

Udaipur : Winter holidays have brought cheers for Udaipur tourism with record number of tourists in the city. More than 500 hotels, guest houses and dharamshalas are housefull as the Xmas festivity has brought over 30,000 tourists in Udaipur since Thursday. Even the VVIPs are being kept in the waiting list for their wanting rooms at the circuit house. Even those hotels situated at comparatively far off places are turning down tourists for non availability of rooms. Very few rooms are available for the tourists in the city and coming for heavy prices. The Eid-Christmas and new year festivity has brought heavy flow of tourists here that has caused severe traffic problems.

Just in past 2 days over 15,000 tourists entered Udaipur, hoteliers claim. The hospitality industry is expecting rush to continue till the January 2. According to local officials majority of tourists are families from Delhi, Mumbai and northern states.  Tourists are flooding to the Sajjangarh Biological park, Lake Pichhola, Fatehsagar, City Palace, Saheliyon ki Bari, Gulabbagh and other prominent site seeing places in the city. With the 10 days Shilpgram festival on, hundreds of tourists and locals are seen enjoying and merry making at the Hawala gaaon where shopping, eating and cultural programs organized by the West Zone Cultural Center is an added attraction. Tourism Officials are happy to see sharp increase in tourists.

The change in climate has played a najor role in attracting the tourists. During the monsoon tourist arrivals to Udaipur had dropped dramatically due to the heavy rains but the winter break seems to be compensating for the past.Meanwhile smooth traffic is emerging as greatest challenge in the space crunch city. Some of the tourists lamented that lack of parking facilities had made them lose a great deal of time. The time lost could have been spent on sight-seeing. They said that in small but popular tourist destinations like Udaipur, provision of proper infrastructural facilities should be accorded high priority.
