ISL management miffed by brawl

Taking strong exception to the brawl that followed the final of the Indian Super League (ISL) between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC, the ISL said on Monday it did not accept “such behaviour” and referred the matter to its disciplinary committee.

In a late night development on Sunday, Goa police arrested Elano Blumer, captain of ISL winning team Chennaiyin FC, for allegedly assaulting FC Goa team co-owner Dattaraj Salgaocar during the post-match celebrations.

“It has been brought to the notice of ISL and concerns expressed by our partner STAR India that the FC Goa management have made adverse comments in the media disputing the result of the ISL 2015 finals played here in Goa on Sunday night.

“The league has also taken a serious view of the unsporting behaviour by the Goa franchise and alleged unsporting behaviour of certain players of the teams on and off the field,” the ISL said in a statement.

The incident occurred during celebrations on the ground. Srinivas Dempo, the second co-owner of Goa, who was present during the incident, said Elano came out of the team dugout and started making fun of FC Goa players.

When Salgaocar questioned him about this, Elano assaulted him.

“ISL does not accept such behaviour from any member of the club management, support staff or players.

“The matter has now been referred to the ISL disciplinary committee. ISL has a strict code of conduct with an established integrity unit and an ACSU division.

“The league has not received any complaint from the Goa management.”
