FM meets Congress leaders to discuss stalled GST Bill

CNBC-TV’s Sapna Das reports that the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today met Congress leaders, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to discuss the delayed Goods & Services Tax (GST) Bill.

With the Winter Session nearing, the BJP government is working to mend relations with the Opposition to ensure smooth passage for stalled bills in the upcoming session.

CNBC-TV’s Sapna Das reports that the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today met Congress leaders, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to discuss the delayed Goods & Services Tax (GST) Bill.

The government is open to modification of the current GST draft and could re-work the one percent manufacturing tax clause. If the manufacturing tax goes, then the government will pay 100 percent compensation to manufacturing states, sources say.

Arvind Subramaniam, the Chief Economic Advisor is expected to submit an interim report on the revenue neutral rate for GST.

The government is also hunting a new head for the GST panel. Source say that Karnataka as well as West Bengal finance ministers are strong contenders for the post. The government will meet on November 20 to discuss the same.
