Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) has been set up in 2008 through an Act of Parliament by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India as an Institute of National Importance along the lines of IITs. The institute is co-promoted as an energy domain specific institute by six leading oil PSUs ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL in association with OIDB. RGIPT is currently offering programmes at Undergraduate (B. Tech. in Petroleum & Chemical Engineering), Postgraduate (M. Tech. in Petroleum & Chemical Engineering and MBA in Petroleum & Energy Management) and Doctoral levels from Rae Bareli and Noida campuses. Second campus of RGIPT is coming up at Sivasagar, Assam, which will offer programmes at diploma level, while a third campus is coming up in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This centre will have stateofthe art facilities and world-class infrastructure for imparting academic and training programmes on Fire Safety Engineering and Process Safety.
