Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif ‘escapes attack’

NEW DELHI: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif narrowly escaped an attack on him on Sunday night while he was on the way to capital Islamabad, the country’s Express Tribune reported on its website.

The website quoting sources at the leader’s official residence reported Sharif along with his family was travelling to the capital when a car tried to overtake the convoy and hit his car. It also said that the car was found to have a fake number plate.

The driver has been taken into custody after the car was forced to pull off. The news website quoting its sources said the interrogation of the driver was under way.

The prime minister is reported to be safe.
