India to hold up well post Fed rate hike: SP

Beth Ann Bovino, US Chief Economist at S&P sees the Fed hiking rates by 25 basis points in September. Further rate hikes will be depend on data and how the US economy absorbs the first rate hike, she adds

The US Federal Reserve is looking for improvement in jobs data and inflation moving in the right direction before taking a call on rate hike, is the word coming in from Beth Ann Bovino, US Chief Economist at S&P.

She sees the Fed hiking rates by 25 basis points in September. Further rate hikes will be depend on data and how the US economy absorbs the first rate hike. However, she sees a rate hike of around 75 bps by December end.

According to her, countries like India, which have pulled back their external balances, don’t have a reason to worry as far as the Fed rate hike is concerned. “India is holding up well, inflation is also softening,” she told CNBC-TV18.
