RS passes Coal Bill; FM terms Budget session fruitful

Calling the day historic, Jaitley said the current Parliament session was a satisfactory one with the passage of “three major pieces of legislation in the Budget session”, including one on insurance.

Apart from the contentious Mines and Minerals Bill, the Rajya Sabha on Friday also passed the Coal Bill. ‎The government will not do allocations now, only auction route will take place, said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Calling the day historic, Jaitley said the current Parliament session was a satisfactory one with the passage of “three major pieces of legislation in the Budget session”, including one on insurance.

However, the minister is not disappointed as the Land Bill could not get passed. The council of ministers will take a view on Land Acquisition Bill, he said.

Jaitley sees lot of investments in the insurance sector and feels the minerals & coal bearing states will benefit from the auction route. He expects the Black Money Bill to be passed in the second half of the Budget session. The date for ‘compliance window’ on black money will to be notified after passage, he said.

The FM expects discussion on GST Constitutional Amendment Bill in the second half of the Budget session.
