There are a number of factors that determine the degree of success in cochlear implant. Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH), Mumbai, a National Institute under this Ministry and its regional centres will determine the candidates for cochlear implantation on an individual basis and take into account a person’s hearing history, cause of hearing loss, amount of residual hearing, speech recognition ability, health status and family commitment to aural habilitation/rehabilitation.
The Ministry has made Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH), Mumbai, as the nodal agency for providing assistance to them. They invite applications by issuing advertisements in news papers (all India editions) and also through their website: www.ayjnihh.nic.in. Applicants have to apply based on advertisement/details on website to AYJNIHH, Mumbai. Cochlear Implant shall be procured by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Kanpur and provided at the nominated hospitals. Surgery would be done at identified Government/State Government approved hospitals. For conducting cochlear implant surgery, initially, the Ministry has approved empanelment of 31 Hospitals (28 Government Hospitals and 3 State Government approved Hospitals).
