Committee to Suggest Mechanism to Revamp NHAI

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has set up a Committee recently to study and suggest mechanism to revamp National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). No proposal to restructure the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to implement pending tenders and construction works within stipulated time-frame is under consideration of the Government.

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and NHAI have taken a number of steps for speedy and timely completion of highway projects including streamlining of the process of land acquisition and other statutory clearances, harmonious substitution of Concessionaire, re-schedulement of Premium quoted by concessionaires, getting Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to treat road sector loans as secured, introduction of revamped dispute resolution mechanism and close coordination with other ministries etc. Apart from these steps, Government is also considering other variants of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode to attract bidders.

This information was given by Minister of State for Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Pon Radhakrishnan in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
