Spectrum auction reaches last leg, activity seen in 800 Mhz

The 900 Mhz band was seeing interest from companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communication, whose licences have been coming up for renewal.

The spectrum auction has reached the last leg, with bidding process for all important, most sought after 900 Mhz band coming to an end, reports CNBC-TV18’s Malvika Jain.

The 900 Mhz band was seeing interest from companies like Bharti Airtel , Vodafone, Idea Cellular  and Reliance Communication , whose licences have been coming up for renewal.

Now the activity has shifted to the 800 Mhz band, which is a CDMA spectrum and is also considered good for providing data services. The 2100 Mhz band, which was sought after for providing high-speed data services seems to have seen muted response, particularly because the government is auctioning only 5 Mhz spectrum at this point in time.

Thus if the bidding activity for 800 Mhz spectrum happens even in one circle then the auction may well continue for another two days or it may end today.
