Telangana EAMCET centers unlikely in Andhra Pradesh

Education NewsRequests for local centers have been pouring in from AP students but officials say a decision has to be taken by the Common Entrance Tests committee.

Applications for the TS Eamcet opened almost a week ago even as the AP State Council of Higher Education is grappling with its own preparations. More than 10,000 students have applied for the TS Eamcet, and almost 20 per cent of the applications are from Andhra Pradesh, officials said. Applications from the Hyderabad region dominated the rest of the list.

“The first Telangana Eamcet is getting a very good response from Andhra Pradesh. We are getting applications in very high numbers from AP,” TS Eamcet convener Dr N.V. Ramana Rao said. It is estimated that in the final count, the number of applicants could touch 80,000. “We are getting a lot of requests for exam centres to be set up in Andhra Pradesh. But it has to go to the CETs committee,” Dr Ramana Rao said.

“We have centres in Kodad (Nalgonda district) and Hyderabad, which will be comfortable for students from AP. If there is a request from the AP government (for centers in the state) we will consider it,” he said. Prof. T. Papi Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education, had earlier said exam centers would be set up in AP if the government requested. Such a request hasn’t been received yet from the AP government.
