CBSE hands back NET to UGC

Education NewsThe decision to hand over the task of conducting NET to CBSE was taken by the UGC in July 2014. Apparently the UGC felt that it was under-equipped to conduct the exam on a national scale. Accordingly, CBSE conducted the NET on 28 December, 2014 without any glitches.

The CBSE has now informed the human resource development (HRD) ministry that it is burdened with its own work and cannot hold the NET in June. NET is conducted twice a year, in June & in December, to determine eligibility for lectureship (as Assistant professor) and for award of Joint Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian Nationals as a standard test for entrants in the teaching profession and research at the university level.

The CBSE already has the responsibility to conduct the class 10 & 12 board exams in March & April as well as the engineering entrance (JEE Main) and medical entrance (AIPMT) examinations. Sources reveal that the UGC has agreed to take back the responsibility of conducting the NET from June 2015 onward
