Foodpanda.in acquires Just Eat India

Global online food delivery marketplace Foodpanda.in on Friday said it has acquired competitor Just Eat for an undisclosed amount to further strengthen its leadership in the Indian food delivery market. While the companies did not disclose the value of the deal, they said the team of Just Eat would receive a minority stake in Foodpanda.in as part of the deal.

This is Foodpanda.in’s second acquisition in India within three months, as the company had in November 2014 acquired Pune-based competitor TastyKhana, which was funded by German Delivery Hero.

Post this acquisition, foodpanda.in will have presence in over 200 cities and have over 12,000 partner restaurants.

Started in Denmark in 2001, Just Eat entered India when it acquired a majority share in Hungry Bangalore in 2011. The company now has 2,000 partner-restaurants. The management of Just Eat India will join Foodpanda.in.

“These are exciting times for us. There has been a tremendous response to our brand and service, and with this acquisition we’re confident that when people think of food delivery, there will be just one answer – foodpanda,” Rohit Chadda, co-founder and managing director of Foodpanda.in said.

Foodpanda operates in 39 countries and has been present in Indian since May 2012.
