Karnataka to hold road traffic census from Feb 19

The Public Works, Ports and Inland Water Transport Department, will conduct Road Traffic Census on PWD roads in Karnataka between February 19 and 26 for the year 2015. The Census will be held on state highways and major district roads.

The present Census will be held across 3,737 count posts situtated on state highways and major district roads, the Department said in a statemment.

The objective of the census is to assess the traffic volume on different category of roads in the state, which will enable the Government to take decisions for improvements to existing roads, upgradation of roads to the higher categories, surface improvements and widening of roads among others.

The Traffic Census data will be collected at the Count Posts by the nominated traffic enumerators such as Assistatnt Engineers/Junior Engineers at about 3,737 Count Posts in the State.

In view of the Census being held for a week continuously on all roads, the Department has sought the cooperation from all the vehicle operators and public in general for the Road Traffic Census on these days, the statement added.
