Speaking at a public meeting organized after the stone laying ceremony, Ms Irani said that the IIM Bill would be introduced in Parliament during the Winter Session of Parliament and hoped that the historic Bill will become an Act and become a reality too.
This will lead to creation of the IIM Council which will oversee the functioning of IIMs. She sought everybody’s help to participate in the new education policy discussions that begin on January 26.
The minister said that in order to fulfil the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they will start for the first time in the history of India, maximum number of online open courses to everyone who seeks to educate himself or herself. Courses will be made available by all the prestigious Central institutions like IITs,IIMs and NITs and the course material will be made available to citizens free of cost. Only students who seek certificates for the courses have to pay a nominal price, she added.
Describing the foundation ceremony of IIM-V as a new spring for Vizag, the minister said that Vizag is a beautiful place and with the foundation stone ceremony of the prestigious institute Vizag and Andhra Pradesh will be developing. She also said that her mother has spent for formative years at Navy Colony in Vizag when she was in her formative age.
