Swachh Bharat: Army conducts cleanliness drive in JK’s Macchil

The army today carried out a cleanliness drive around its camps in Macchil sector along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’.

“Under the aegis of Chinar Corps and Vajra Division, the army personnel undertook an awareness and cleanliness drive to create clean environs for living and working,” an army spokesman said.

The spokesman said a major initiative towards this was undertaken in 14 villages of Machhil in Kupwara district.

“Youth, children, women and elderly people also came forward to clean up the area around residences, offices and schools,” he said.

The spokesman said army personnel commenced the drive by cleaning the surrounding of their camps.

“The special drive has been launched by Brigadier Ranjan Mahajan, the Machhil Brigade Commander, to root out the very causes of the routine health problems. Most of the health problems relate to hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness,” he said.

As part of the programme, a core team of boys and girls will be trained on educating people about basic hygiene- related habits in near future, the spokesman said, adding that the team will conduct house-to-house visits and educate the people living in remote areas about the best practices.
