Cabinet may pick up land, mining ordinances this week

The land ordinance will not change Land Act Compensation Clause. It is only aimed at simplifying land acquisition for PPP projects and may do away with social impact study for PPP.

After coal and insurance ordinances, the Cabinet is likely to pick up land and mining ordinance as well. The prime minister’s office (PMO), finance minister Arun Jaitley and the law minister finalized two ordinances over the weekend.

The land ordinance will not change Land Act Compensation Clause. It is only aimed at simplifying land acquisition for PPP projects and may do away with social impact study for PPP.

The mining ordinance may give the Central government discretionary powers over states and introduce strong penalties.
