Vice Chairman of International Friendship Exchange Council of Japan calls on the Minister of State for Home Affairs

A Japanese business delegation led by the International Friendship Exchange Council (FEC) Vice Chairman, Mr. Kenichi Watanable called on the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, here today. Mr. Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador of Japan & representatives of several Japanese companies were in the delegation. The International Friendship Exchange Council of Japan whose main activities are to support Japanese companies to develop business abroad and to act as a bridge between foreign companies and Japanese companies through its government and institutional contacts, organized the meeting. The meeting was also attended by Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Joint Secretary (East Asia), Ministry of External Affairs.

While emphasizing the Look-east policy of the Prime Minister, Shri Kiren Rijiju described priorities of Union Government to develop infrastructure in North-East region and welcomed the Japanese companies to come and invest in the area. The Minister also appreciated the Japanese side for the documentary being prepared on the North-East by them. He emphasized the long standing cultural ties between India & Japan, and also suggested the option of investments in Buddhist circuit tourism sector in North East, including the hospitality sector. The delegation was updated about the special provisions for Japanese Nationals regarding the Residential permits.

The Japanese delegation flagged some issues relating to resident permits in case of employment visa and various hurdles like taxation/GST difficulties they are facing at State/District levels even after signing MOU with Centre. They requested for intervention & the Minister assured them all help in faster resolution of the problems.
