Clashes at Rampal’s ashram leave 200 injured

Clashes broke out at the Satlok Ashram of guru Rampal here in Haryana, leaving more than 200 persons, including personnel and reporters, injured, as efforts to arrest him were met with resistance from his supporters who allegedly fired at the police and lobbed petrol bombs.

Three First Information Reports have been filed against Rampal and his supporters, state Director General of Police S N Vashisht told reporters in Chandigarh.

The police lobbed tear-gas shells and did a baton charge to disperse supporters.

He said police operations would continue till Rampal,  “definitely” holed up inside the ashram, is brought out, and produced before the Punjab and Haryana High Court at Chandigarh, which has issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against him in a contempt case.
