Finally, a National Ranking System to be designed for Indian universities!

Education NewsHyderabad: A ranking system designed exclusively for rating Indian institutions is soon going to be a reality. Several academics had long voiced their discontent over comparing our universities based on global benchmarks and international fields of studies. The inability of popular ranking systems like the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings to capture the academic essence, needs and contributions of Indian higher education institutions had always been a matter of grave concern to the Indian education scenario.

A working group has now been constituted by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to outline an India-centric framework to develop the National Ranking System. The working group comprises Vice Chancellors of the English and Foreign Languages University, University of Delhi, Central University of Gujarat and Jawaharlal Nehru University. The group will submit its report within one month.

A National Ranking system has many advantages – for the university it ensures currency of programmes, relevance of teaching system, and transparency of procedures, and for the student it helps make informed choices regarding institute for study.
