Turkey’s biggest union to strike on Thursday over mine disaster

ANKARA: Turkey’s biggest union said it would go on strike on Thursday over a devastating mine explosion which has claimed at least 274 lives, as anger mounted over the country’s worst mining accident.

“Those who keep up with privatisation … policies, who threaten workers’ lives to reduce cost … are the culprits of Soma massacre and they must be held accountable,” Turkey’s Public Workers Unions Confederation (KESK), which represents 240,000 employees, said on its website.
