UN Report To Confirm Chemical Weapons Used In Syria Attack

On Friday, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says that a report by U.N. chemical weapons experts will likely confirm that poison gas was used in an August 21 attack on Damascus suburbs that killed hundreds of people.

Mr. Ban also said he believed that President Bashar al-Assad of Syria “has committed many crimes against humanity.”

France’s U.N. ambassador, Gerard Araud, told reporters that Monday is the tentative date for Ban to present Sellstrom’s report to the Security Council and other U.N. member states.

Russia regards as unacceptable any resolution backed by military force, or a resolution that blames the Syrian government for chemical attacks.
