Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones confirm separation after 13 years of marriage. it was confirmed by the couple on Wednesday.
The couple, who have been married for 13 years, released a statement via their publicist after reports their marriage had hit the rocks.
Douglas is said to be in Sardinia on his own, while Zeta Jones remains in New York with their two children. The couple, who married in 2000, were last pictured together on the red carpet in April.
It was recently reported by Star Magazine that Catherine was set to begin a ‘$300m divorce battle’ against Michael, to end their marriage.
While a representative for Michael, 68, and Catherine, 43, denied that they have separated, the married couple have been spending time apart recently.
Michael is said to be living in Manhattan while Catherine is staying at their $4m home in New York State with their children Dylan, 13 years, and Carys, 10 years.
The pair have both struggled with health problems in recent years. Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010, while Zeta Jones sought treatment for bipolar disorder in 2011 and again earlier this year.
The couple share the same birthday, 25 September, and met at the Deauville Film Festival in France in 1998. They had their first child in August 2000, and married three months later in a lavish ceremony at New York’s Plaza hotel, where guests included Goldie Hawn, Christopher Reeve, Jack Nicholson and Brad Pitt.
